DELE Exam Preparation: Month One

Hello!

I’ve missed you all!

If you didn’t know, I began preparing for the Diploma de Español como una Lengua Extranjera exam this month. It has been amazing. I’ve learned so much already. I’m currently high B2, but I scheduled my test in November for C1 (CEFR).

What this diploma allows me to do is possibly attend school in a Spanish speaking country, or work as a Spanish teacher in a non-Spanish speaking country.  I had been playing with the idea for about two years, and it’s finally happening in November.

I wanted to take the test in July to have it done before I move for university. My Italki teacher explained to me it will be at least nine months before I could pass the C1 test. She told me all the tasks I could be required to do, and I agreed that I was definitely not there yet.

We began preparing the first week of February, and are finishing the first unit in my textbook on Wednesday. While doing the first unit, I’ve learned a lot. Especially about the subjunctive. This past lesson, I learned about passive reflexive. It’s been really difficult, and frustrating because the minute she told me it will be a lot of work, things in my life got difficult as well.

This is definitely more difficult than I thought. Going from a B2 to a C1 is a big challenge. C1 is supposed to be very advanced. Spanish should flow and go together, unlike mine, which is very broken.

Anyways, Month 1, Unit 1. I will update on my progress again in April.

Have a great day!

Marina.
