Guilty Language Learner Tag!

Hello again!

So, last week I answered questions from Polyglot Progress’s video about the language tag. Today, I’ll be answering questions from Ophelia Vert‘s video. Polyglot Progress’s Abigail did a response to this as well, which you might see near the linked video.

Let’s get right to the questions!

Which language do you never make time for?

I never make time for French. I’m preparing for the DELE exam, which is a test you’ve heard me talk about a few times. It feels like there is never enough time to study French.

Which language do you think you’ll never learn?

Japanese. Not now at least. I have languages I’ve been planning to work on to last me until I’m 45. I do want to go to Japan, but I feel like I’m a more European and African language learner for now.

What’s your most expensive/least valuable language-related investment?

Most expensive, my two month trip to Costa Rica. Definitely the most expensive, however the most valuable as well. Least valuable would probably be Duolingo. It just confuses me if I’m a beginner and is boring if I’m advanced.

What’s a lie you tell to non-language learners to try and get them to learn languages?

It doesn’t take a lot of work to learn a language! The truth is, it does. It’s really difficult to practice all of these lessons, and still not be able to speak in sentences. What you really need is passion. If you’re passionate, you’ll learn faster (in your opinion).

What’s your language learning guilty pleasure?

I know most people say this, but my language learning guilty pleasure is books. I like the accountability of books, but I like buying books in other languages, or a ton of books for languages I’m learning at the moment, or books on languages I plan to learn but am nowhere near learning this particular language anytime soon.

Sorry for the short blog, but I had the SATs this weekend, and I am currently on my way to México at the moment. Woohoooo!

Marina.
