My Amazing Week in Mexico

Good Morning a week later!

As I sat in my room multitasking writing this post and watching Moana, I was lacking the motivation to write this post last week. Not because I was not excited about sharing my amazing trip with you all, I was just worthlessly tired. I have so much to tell you.

Day 1:

This was mostly on the plane, however, we had some issues with suitcases and laziness on the part of the airline. My dad’s suitcase was nearly sent to Maui instead of Cabo, where we were going. It didn’t get in until that Tuesday. We arrived Monday. Otherwise, it was a pretty smooth day of plane travel and looking awful on my part. When we arrived at the hotel, I was greeted with some cerveza or beer. Which my dad quickly took away from me because he was grumpy he didn’t have his suitcase. After that, I met the event coordinator who didn’t speak Spanish (I don’t think), but he spoke French! When I told him that, it was the beginning where he would just go on and on in French, and I’d just nod along. It wasn’t the best system, but it worked for us. So, we then got ready for a meeting my dad’s company was holding (the whole reason we were able to go there in the first place). The dinner was okay, my eyes were bigger than my stomach (as usual) and I took one of everything. The dessert was not my favorite because it all had fruit on it. Where there is fruit, it equals a fruit salad, so I technically ate healthily this whole time. Then, we went to a show the hotel puts on every night. It is almost like Broadway, but definitely not as sophisticated or classy with technique. This show was one of my favorites: Mariachi, bachata, salsa, yes, please!

Day 2:

So, day 2, amazing, amazing, amazing. It started out with a foam party in the pool, which was so fun. I found my favorite place in the hotel. The poolside bar. The Bar Azul became my saving grace of the trip, they made the best virgin piña coladas a girl super close to the drinking age could ask for. The 24-hour deli was amazing as well, just because it was just as relaxing as the bar with no swimsuit and more peace and quiet. I made great friends with the bartenders there because we would talk in Spanish. That means no one could understand me if I was talking about them (which I never had the courage to do). Then, we left the foam party, ate lunch at my least favorite restaurant there, then went to sleep. Of course right after I got to sleep dad woke me up and asked if I wanted to go with him to get his suitcase. I agreed and we went to the lobby, where he bought some cigars to share with friends, and almost forgot his suitcase. I tried pigeon at the Spanish restaurant El Cortijo, dad and friends smoked cigars by the fire outside, and we went to day 2 of the shows. This was definitely NOT my favorite night of shows, titled BLEE, no not Glee, Blee. However, all I was wondering that night was does the B stand for Bad? Boring? Barf? Either way, not my favorite.

Day 3:

This is the day with most of the good stuff. We were “scheduled” to go on a city tour, however, when we walked up to get going, the guy said if you didn’t pay up front, you weren’t reserved. Guess who didn’t pay up front? MOM. So, she worked her mama bear magic and somehow got us on a tour anyways. It was amazing. We went to an area with tons of shops, it was so cute. We had the option to go back on Friday, but I couldn’t come up with a reason for my parents to take me other than they’re so interesting! However, I didn’t need anything there, so I figured, why even try. We went to a place where they made things out of glass. It was interesting but so hot it was hard to focus. We were going to do a tequila tasting, but two girls on the bus didn’t drink, and the old people had been to Mexico before and had done it before. Anyways, when that didn’t happen it lead to us going on the glass bottom boat quicker. This was so cool, it was also terrifying. I had to get on the boat, then mom had to sit on the very top of the boat, and not with the family. Luckily we were still kind of all together. No one wanted to take pictures for me, so all of my pictures are awful. So, I’m blind as a bat, terrified of the boat, and couldn’t get anyone to help me take pictures. Whatever. We went to eat at an average restaurant afterward, but at least we had people playing music for us, and a good waiter. After that, we went to the hotel, and I sat in the deli chilling out and having some much needed alone time. Then when my phone started to die, and I was the only one in the deli, I left and went back to the room to get ready for dinner that night.

Day 4:

Not much to say about this day. Dad was golfing so we rented a cabana, and stayed in there until we had to get ready for the art walk in the next town over! When it came time to leave for the art walk, because we had reservations, Nat decided she didn’t want to come with us. This was fine with me, but my parents were disappointed. The art walk was amazing. Beautiful scenery, really reminded me that I was in Mexico, and to have a good time. So, after the restaurant with performances, as well as a group of musicians, and great food, it was time to get a cab home. However, on the way, there was elote, paleta, and churro vendors. Which is one of the main reasons I wanted to go to Mexico. So, I got elote and some churros. No paletas this trip.

Day 5:

Friday, not much happened on Friday either. We rented another cabana, and stayed there the whole day, until our reservation at this Italian restaurant. However, we didn’t go because it was Viva Mexico night, so we ate dinner outside. However, I had to go after dinner because I was tired, and that night was mostly for kids it seemed.

Day 6:

Saturday was one of my favorite days of the trip. I came down to have some breakfast, we rented another cabana and then when I went back up to our room, I didn’t come out. I watched YouTube videos, ate some good lunch, and then took a two-hour nap. My family all went to dinner, however, when they woke me up, I didn’t feel like going right away. So, I came out later, and it was great.

Day 7; The Final Day:

Sunday was my least favorite day. We were on our way home. Luckily, we were able to eat breakfast, then get our suitcases out the door. Mom and I both got wheelchairs at the airport to make the trip easier. When I had to start walking up the stairs, on the last stair, my cane slipped, and I fell. Forward, thank goodness. At least it was funny for my family though. During our connecting flight, I was getting overwhelmed, and my phone was about to die, so I sat down at the charging station, and forgot my headphones when I was rushed by my family to wait in line for 5 minutes until we started boarding. I was devastated. They were awesome. Not like the crappy headphones, Apple gives us with our iPhones. Not like cheap headphones, that fall apart. I had just got them for Christmas.  They were great for when the Beats headphones felt too big. All I wanted were earbuds. Those were perfect.

Despite the devastating end of my trip, we are home now, and the only thing keeping me sane in my last months of high school is counting down to my next trip in July.

Okay, thanks for reading! Have a good week!
